“Resources I’ve Found Helpful, Throughout My Walk of Faith”

Photo by Brett Jordan on Pexels.com

Since becoming a Christian for myself, and realizing that I didn’t have this faith solely because my parents did, I have had a desire to learn more about Christ, to ask more questions, to seek the truth and the evidence for it. Now that I am also a parent, I find that desire to be amplified, greatly. Since I started my search I have found resources (and have been given recommendations) that turned out to be a lot of help.

I thought it would also be of help to you and your family, to list some of my most helpful resources! Especially to help equip us for when our kids start asking us very hard questions! So, before I get the list started, I just want to encourage you to read everything, but most importantly test everything. I will divide everything into different categories, to help make it easier.

A lot of these resources, are things that sparked many questions and much curiosity, and if it’s not something you’ve watched or heard before, I’m sure it will for your family too! Don’t be afraid to challenge yourself to think more critically, to gain better answers for those hard questions, even if it takes effort and time. These different resources, took me down so many bunny trails of thoughts! Although a lot of them were strengthening for me, some I wrestled with.

As I find more resources, I will update this post with them!

“Expecting Another Baby, and Choosing a Home Birth.”

Photo by Tima Miroshnichenko on Pexels.com

So, as you have seen from the title of this post, we are expecting another sweet, little baby, coming Spring 2022! We are beyond excited, to bring another baby into this world and for our daughter to finally, have a sibling! It is such a blessing. With our first baby, Beatrice, I had her right when the “pandemic” had pretty much began. We went with a birth center for her, but this time around we will be doing a home birth.

First Pregnancy:

With Beatrice, the pregnancy and birth went wonderfully, and that was all because of the Lord. Although my husband could not come to appointments, until I was half way through it, and there were other potential uncertainties, we held fast to the Lord the entire time, and never once, got anxious over it. The Lord had answered all of our prayers during that pregnancy and the birth, it was such, a blessing. I won’t go into detail over everything, as we want to hold close the more personal things, but the Lord kept us protected, as He always will.

As mentioned above, we went with a birth center and during that time, many labor/delivery places did not allow more than 1-2 support people, in the room with you. I heard of some places not even allowing 1 person- no mother, should ever be forced to give birth, alone. The birth center we were at, when we were there, allowed 2 people. However, before we even got far into the pregnancy, my husband and I had decided, we wanted it to be just us, when our daughter was born.

My focus was always going to be on the Lord for my strength, on getting the baby here safely, and on my husband for my physical/emotional support. We really wanted that special time by ourselves, as a family. I also, just don’t love being put on display for everyone to see, that’s just my personal preference. So, we did not feel the need to have anyone else there, during the birth. It was so sweet, coming home and then introducing our baby to her new aunts/uncles, and her grandparents, as well. We will definitely be doing it this way for a long while!

Baby Beatrice, holding on to Momma and bunny- fast asleep.

I Encourage You:

We are very blessed to be able to choose, and do a home birth. I know, unfortunately, some people do not have this choice, due to certain medical issues and such, requiring them to need some extra medical care. I just want to encourage you, if you wanted to do home birth, yet can’t during this time; if you’re scared, don’t be! Pray and trust in Jesus, he will keep your family protected. Trust that no matter what happens, we are not meant to stay on this earth. Eventually, we will be with our Lord and Savior, for eternity. I’d say, that is the greatest blessing, and greatest comfort.

Choosing Home Birth:

Originally, I actually did not enjoy the idea of a home birth, at all. I wanted the chaos of labor and delivery, to be somewhere other than my home, so I could come back to my peaceful, quiet house. Also, if I have to be messed with, I would rather be messed with at the birth center, where that happens all the time, and not in the privacy, of my house. But alas! Here I am planning to have my second child, in the sweet privacy of my home. It’s too funny. I have a wonderful midwife though, and thankfully, it was actually someone we already knew and had a relationship built with! To be serious though, our thoughts changed on this because of the dark pressures and demands in everything, involving covid.

We do not want to be uncomfortable, be pressured to do things, be given incorrect treatment, or even not receive treatment at all, based off a “potential symptom” or a certain “protocol” when we need to focus on our baby and his/her health. We will not allow our child, to be treated, or mistreated, against our will as his/her parents either, due to the healthcare system having their specific “protocols.” So, for our safety, and the safety of our child; we are choosing to do a home birth, as that gives us the comfort and freedom, we are looking for and desire.

With how things have gone, so many have been treated unfairly, because the medical facilities don’t agree with a patients (or employee’s) views on certain things, or they are just stuck following their, once again, “protocols”. Apparently, people have got to know the complete medical immunization (and political) history of everyone and their dog, all so they can bully you into an oblivion— unless of course! it’s in line with their own views.

Ultimately though, no matter what happens with me, or with you if you are also going through pregnancy right now; the Lord is with us, and our children

We did not choose to do home birth out of fear, We chose to do home birth, because we simply will not be forced, or have rights stripped away from us, or our child. We fear the Lord, not the government or any mandate, that it throws out. Because ultimately, without question, it is Jesus Christ, who has more power than anyone, or anything on earth. So lastly, I will leave you with some scripture!

Acts 5:29 ESV “But Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than men.”

1 Corinthians 10:31 ESV “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”

Philippians 4:6-7 ESV “do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

“Christian Families vs Halloween.”

Husband carved this, for our daughter- too cute!

This week, a bad cold hit our little family, and we haven’t been doing very much, but watching Tinker Bell with our daughter, and drinking tea. Halloween looks different every year for us, we don’t ever go crazy about it and we look at it, as any other day. Usually, my husband is working and our daughter, Beatrice, has been too little to do things, anyways. I’m sure what we do on Halloween, will change over time, though. Celebrate or not to celebrate; it’s so sticky for a lot of Christian families, and with having my own family now, I’ve had my views change over this day, as well.

The Way We Grew Up:

My family really never celebrated Halloween, at all. We did maybe once or twice, when I was very young, but after I got older, and more siblings came along we stopped, entirely. My husband’s family did celebrate, in their own little way. Just them around their house, and as he and his siblings got older they would go to a Halloween party, if a friend was throwing one, and such. As a child, I always had the perspective that Halloween was an evil holiday, and it wasn’t good for Christians to celebrate. My husband and I, had many talks over what we would do, as we had grown up in families that had pretty, different takes on it.

Questions To Ask: For Parents and Kids

  • In regards to Halloween day, and costumes:
  1. What ways could we honor the Lord, on this day?
  2. What kinds of celebration during this day, would be dishonoring to the Lord, if we partake in it?
  3. What does scripture say, about celebration and how to honor the Lord, with what we do?
  4. What does scripture say about life and death?
  5. What parts of Halloween do you think contains glorifications of death and sinful things?
  6. What parts of Halloween do you think does not glorify, death and sinful things?
  7. Have you prayed about it, to make sure it won’t be harmful to you and/or your faith in any way?
  8. If you wear a costume, what could you wear that is honoring to the Lord?
  9. Why do you think this specific costume, would honor the Lord?
  10. Why do you think this specific costume, would be dishonoring to the Lord?
  • In regards to Halloween parties, horror movies, and haunted festivities:
  1. What about the movie seems honoring and/or dishonoring to the Lord? and could you pick out any good things from it, that would be beneficial to you and/or your faith in any way?
  2. What about this haunted festivity is honoring and/or dishonoring to the Lord? and is there any good you can pick out?
  3. What about this specific party is honoring and/or dishonoring to the Lord? and is there any good you can pick out?
  4. Have you prayed about it, to make sure it wouldn’t be harmful to you and/or your faith, in any way?
  5. What ways could you spread the gospel, while out with your friends on a day like this?

If you find that, as you answer these questions- you and your children- that maybe Halloween is not something you need to, or want to partake in at all, then that is okay. If you find that while answering these questions, you have found yourself seeing the parts of Halloween that aren’t so bad, and see it to be alright for your family to partake in after all, that is also okay.

If you have fully thought it out, looked into scripture, and discussed it with your spouse, as to why you have decided on this or that, and you have found a way to partake, that honors and glorifies the Lord, go for it!

On my list of books to get!

What Our Kids Need To Know, About Anything We Choose To Celebrate:

When it comes to Halloween, if you’re a Christian family and you choose to celebrate parts of it, or you don’t at all, I think either way is fine! I listened to a podcast recently, (Allie Beth Stuckey’s Relatable Podcast: Ep 514) where she (Allie) talks about how they put candy in baggies, with a piece of paper that had scripture on it, or making banners with scripture on it as outside decor- I thought it was a wonderful inspiration! It’s the one day a year people, come to our doors, and we don’t have to lecture them, or convert them right there on our front porch, but at least spread some gospel. If you can, and while you can!

– Philippians 4:6-9 ESV “do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.

I am giving, a brief description of what she talked over in the podcast episode, but it was worth mentioning on here for sure! I encourage you to go find, and listen to that podcast. I definitely agree with how she thinks when it comes to Halloween! We are not called to celebrate, or glorify death and decay, and while Halloween has a lot of that; I do think that not every piece of Halloween is a celebration of death. Like getting candy for example, or wearing (certain) costumes. Those are both things kids do randomly throughout the year, anyways. At least, when I was a child, I played dress up and ate candy, occasionally.

Regardless of what’s decided, our children need to know that whatever we choose to celebrate, it needs to be honoring to the Lord!

More Scripture:

  • 1 Corinthians 10:31 ESV “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”
  • 1 Corinthians 6:20 ESV “for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.”
  • Proverbs 15:3 ESV “The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good.”

What We Will Do:

Our daughter, isn’t quite old enough to be doing things right now, for any holiday that is. However, as she gets older I see her asking to go to parties with friends, maybe mentioning those creepier movies, or wanting to go to different kinds of haunted festivities, no doubt! I’m sure we all have done so, to our parents at one point in time.

I can’t imagine we’d say no, unless for good reason, if she wants to go to a Halloween party a friend is throwing. As for the other “haunted” things, or even the creepy movies, considering they are mostly playing, this time of year; we will ask the questions listed above, and help our daughter or any children we have, to figure it out through thought, prayer, and scripture, just as we will do with everything else.

Halloween should not be a day that is feared so much that we hide away, or seen as something like the devil’s birthday, as I’ve been told in the past, as a young child who just wanted some candy (I unfortunately, don’t recall who exactly said this). However, that did indeed, deter me from wanting to partake! and it is definitely not the devils birthday, in case you were wondering. If you choose to, or choose not to, partake in any parts of Halloween, I encourage you to explain why to your children, and make sure your decision, will honor God. It’s also important, to make sure they understand that your decision, is honoring to God.

Lastly, if whatever you have chosen to partake in, or celebrate, does not honor the Lord in any way, you should rethink why you are celebrating it, at all.

“Thoughts, On My Mind”

Some cute, pumpkins from the Pumpkin Patch we went to, over the weekend.

We went to a Pumpkin Patch, this weekend. It was a really sunny day, and perfect weather; so many families were out and about. For us, personally (although, this is likely true, for most of us) it’s been so long since we have actually seen little ones running around outside, in the fresh air, and actually seeing their whole faces, while doing so. I’m happy to say, that the majority of the people there, you could see their whole face! and whatever emotion it portrayed. Lately, I’ve had family on my mind a lot, as I’m sure most of us have. Not just my own relatives, but families in general.

With what is happening in the world right now, I’ve heard quite often, people’s fears of bringing children into this world at a moment like this, and how they just don’t want to, at all. Another I’ve heard, is that they are scared for the children they do have. I know, as a parent, I do not want my daughter to ever suffer in her life, but I also know that we all endure something. Children are a gift, and they are a blessing from the Lord.

Psalms 127:3 ESV “Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.”

We are all placed on this earth with a purpose; even our tiny, little (or big) children. The Lord doesn’t bring someone here, without a purpose. No matter what is going on around us, what the world looks like, whatever we predict the outcome to be in the future; any child placed here, is here for a reason.

2 Timothy 1:9 ESV “who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in christ Jesus before the ages began.”

Romans 8:28 ESV “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.”

Such a fun, corn maze!

If you want children, do not be afraid, pray, and wait on the Lord’s answer. If, a child is the Lord’s will, he will make it happen! If you already have children, equip them with scripture and guide them best you can. Lastly, just always remember to seek the Lord, and rebuke the enemy. That’s the best advice I got, for you!

2 Timothy 1:7 ESV “for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”

There are people out there, making life-altering decisions, because of fear.

There are also people out there, making life-altering decisions, out of a fight against fear.

Pray for all of them, and for any children they may be bringing into this world (or any children whom are already here).

While I know this was shorter than usual, that is all the encouragement, I have for right now. However, there will be more things to come, in the near future! Currently, I have been just focusing on doing things one step at a time, enjoying the busyness of life, and having quality time with my little family, when we have the time.

Jeremiah 29:11 ESV “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

“Why We Got 3 Months Worth of Emergency Supplies, and What We Got.”

Our emergency supplies, and the new shelving my husband built for it:)

So to begin, We all know whats going on in the country right now (at least I would hope, most of us know). Heavy, government things. We decided with everything going on, it’d be safe and best for our family, to make sure we are set to live for at least 3 months, without going to stores, or really just not leaving our house at all. Regardless of where anybody stands politically, our country isn’t doing too well right now. So, I encourage you to prepare your family, in any way that you can!

I will not go in detail about our political stand point on this post, but I don’t mind debating over, or just chatting about it! We are a family who loves to be prepared, and I suppose, likes to be cautious with certain things, as well. That is why we decided to prepare ourselves, a bit. To be honest, in case something fairly, bad happens.

At the end of the day though, our trust is in the Lord. From Him, is where our help and our protection comes from. So we are not, and won’t be found, hiding in fear over what happens around us.

What We Got:

We calculated for a family of 2 adults, and 2 kids (we added an extra kid just in case we have another, when we need all this food!) it would be 6,000 Calories a day, of food for all of us. Adults average out to 2,000 Cals a day, where young kids average about 1,000 Cals. So, we basically just got tons of canned items and shelf-sustainable foods. A list will be put below of items, and quantities.

List of Food:

  • 2, 4Ib bags of trail mix
  • 2, 10Ib boxes of oatmeal
  • 10,18 packs of premier protein drinks
  • 4, 6 pack boxes of almond milk (one is coconut milk, to mix it up)
  • 2, 5Ib bottles of honey
  • 3,  6Ib two packs of Peanut butter
  • 1, 36 count box of apple sauce cups
  • 2, 64oz bags of Craisins
  • 6, 3 packs of 17oz bags of pasta noodles
  • 1, 25Ib bag of White Rice
  • 3, 12 count boxes of canned corn
  • 4, 12 count boxes of canned tomato sauce
  • 5, 8 count boxes of Baked beans
  • 10, 8 count boxes of canned corn beef hash
  • 6, 8 count boxes of black beans
  • 1, 8 count box of canned spam
  • 5, 12 count packs of canned tuna
  • 10, 6 count packs of canned chicken
  • “Ready Hour” Brand canned emergency food List: Website Link Here
  • 3 cans of Cheesy Broccoli and Rice soup
  • 3 cans of Mashed Potatoes
  • 3 cans of Homestyle Potato soup
  • 3 cans of Travelers Stew
  • 3 cans of Black Bean Burger
  • 3 cans of Corn Chowder
  • 3 cans of Chicken Flavored Noodle soup
  • 3 cans of Creamy Chicken Flavored Rice
  • 3 cans of Potato Cheddar soup

Extra Emergency Supplies:

We didn’t just get food, we also got some extra, basic, household medical supplies, and a bit of camping equipment. These things we would have eventually gotten anyways, but we definitely wanted them on hand, now. One thing we commit to, is none of this food will sit on our shelf, and go bad. Most of these items we already use daily, so we will constantly be switching out older dates, for newer dates.

I recommend, if you do get food for emergencies, get items that you eat daily, or plan to eat, so that way you can switch old ones out for newer ones, if they’ve sat for a long time. It would be a huge loss if any of this went bad, for no good reason.

List of Medical and Camping:

  • Medical Supplies:
  • Hydrogen Peroxide
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Alcohol (not for drinking)
  • Cold/flu medicines
  • Allergy medicines
  • A variety of different bandages and wraps
  • A Tourniquet
  • An Oximeter
  • A Thermometer
  • Bug Bite suction tool
  • Burn and Itch spray
  • Ointments/Creams (Neosporin, Hydrocortizone, Anti-septic, etc)
  • Epsom Salt (12Ib box)
  • Not medical, but reusable cloth diapers for little ones! (linked here)
  • Camping Equipment:
  • Set of 2 Pots
  • Set of 4 camping utensils and dishes
  • Propane camping grill
  • A couple Water filtration systems
  • Sleeping bags (rated for 0* degree)
  • Bear Spray
  • Walkie Talkies

We also have essential oils; lavender, tea tree, and a few other helpful ones (I always liked to add those to creams and ointments), and some calendula balm for cracked/dry skin, but we already had those on hand. All above, is just a basic list, of our items. We hope to encourage you with this list, to prepare your own family. We are not doing this because of fear, we are doing this because we want to be smart and equipped for the future- whatever it may hold.

If you don’t notice how hateful the country is becoming, how freedoms are being stripped from people (whether you personally, like those people, or not), I encourage you to look around, to research, to test everything against God’s word. However, if you do notice, like most people are starting to, do not cower down in fear. Find community with like-minded people, stand strong in your faith, and don’t back down.

Psalm 100:3 (ESV) “Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.”

If you are afraid of the pandemic and/or government, and the dark pressures you feel from it, don’t be! Stand strong, in the Lord. Even when all seems lost financially, emotionally, or even physically, He will provide, just have faith in Him.

The Lord is greater than a sickness, a vaccine, a president, a government, a job, a country, I mean you name it, He is Greater than it.

Proverbs 3:5 (ESV) “Trust in the Lord with all your heart , and do not lean on your own understanding.”
