Our Home in The Making: Two Homes as One

Well, I’m back with another great update on our 2.5 acre property! I’ll be sharing some changes the cottage has had, but mainly this will actually be discussing our trailer home! Some big repairs have started as we get everything prepped and move in ready.

Trailer in The Raw

Before we dive in, here is part one, two, and three of this property journey in case you missed it!

To give a bit of background, we bought an older, $4,000 trailer that needed some TLC. We have finally begun working on it as we get closer to our “move in day” and found a few spots that needed more work than we thought. Here are the before, and after demo pictures.

The previous owners had used it with their pets, and so the carpet that was in it had to be taken out. We did try to clean it just to save on money, but after all the heat we had a week ago, an unpleasant stench came upon us. The old owner did mention a significant water damage repair in the triple bunk part of the trailer, but my husband just found that it was still moist, and has mold.

Because of the mold issue, the girls and I will be on temporary suspension from entering the trailer until he gets that taken care of. More hopeful news though, is that it’s getting a newer kitchen, and new flooring! We will be saving money every way we possibly can, to make this as sustainably, budget friendly as possible. So, I have lot’s of “deal finding” to do, as we finish this trailer up.

I know trailer living, especially with kids in tow, can be intimidating or even seems impossible to some people, but here is how I view that.

It’s a roof over our heads, and children are a blessing.

Our Cottage has Siding

The comparison pictures from day one to what the cottage is currently. Seeing this progress, I am rejoicing all the more!

All I can do is be thankful for how far we’ve gotten! This coming week is the electrical, interior walls, and roofing. Then after that, it will be finishing gravel work, plumbing, and the completion of our well and septic, I believe!

Our driveway is taking form! Here is a look at the very first load. A very special thanks to my dad for taking time out of his schedule to bring us all the gravel. Just a bit more work to do and we’ll have a finished driveway!

Wrapping it Up

Once we have the repairs finished on our trailer, I’ll continue getting it ready to live in. We’ll finish setting up all our utilities, but all that’s left after that is moving ourselves in.

This whole process so far has been stretching, and stressful at times. Unexpected repairs have come up, finances are tight, and we have a looming deadline with tasks still flooding our plate. But we also have a home, a 3rd sweet child on the way, and in a few weeks, we celebrate our 4 years of marriage. Any issues we have now will eventually resolve, and I know the Lord will help us through all our troubles. The Lord is good, friends.

“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
