Our Home in the Making

We’ve completed garbage clean up, clearing, driveway prep, meter prep, and cottage demo on our property! A lot of fixer upper things have been done, so here is what’s new!

First, the Garbage

Our 2.50 acre property was riddled with garbage everywhere, when we first bought it. So far, we have hauled away exactly, 2 tons (4,000 lbs) of garbage. After finishing the cottage demo, we have another pile sitting on our porch that we will be getting rid of soon.

We are beyond thankful to have had our friends and family help us so much. Without their willingness, we would have never accomplished all these tasks.

Before and After the Cottage Demo

We are especially glad to have completed the cottage cleaning process, too. It was a complete disaster, and I’m still not sure how anyone could be living in that mess. Although seeing such carelessness from people has been quite sad, watching the garbage disappear has been so wonderful.

Our Cottage Plans:

The cottage is 500 square feet in size, and my husband has come up with a plan to turn it into two separate things. We’re wanting to put in a full size wall, making two different sides with two different doors.

Our storage area will be on one side, and the other side will contain a small kitchen area, a washer/dryer set up, and an extra bathroom. This gives us a little extra room for a couple basic amenities outside of our trailer. It also gives us that extra storage space. Hopefully, we will be able to make all these things happen, but only time and our budget will tell.

You may be asking, is this cheating at tiny living? Possibly, it’s hard to say. Either way, we are praying we can make the best of our cottage and use it to its fullest potential.

Clearing and Driveway Prep

Our property is treed, but luckily it was open enough that we didn’t have to cut much down at all. We had just enough clearing done to prep our driveway, and the cottage area. It did however, leave us with many big landscaping rocks that lay scattered about, but I am excited to make some designs with those soon! The clearing will be finished this week, so gravel for driveway is just around the bend. My husband, and surely a couple brothers, will start the meter work in a few days. Once meter work is done, the cottage remodel will commence.

Last Little Bits and Pieces

This whole process has been a lot of hard work, and at times it seems like things are just waiting to go wrong. Nevertheless, the Lord has kept us protected and has been with us through it all. We pray we can be good stewards of this land He has blessed us with, and hope to make it a great home for our 3 little ones. My oldest girl, has many flower lists, and garden plans already! No complete garden plans to share just yet though, those will come later on.

Pictured below is what the cottage looks like now. We had some space and a tree cleaned up around the cottage. It’s been a wild ride so far, and I can’t wait to see what happens next! As we move to the next round of work, I will be posting more updates. For more photos of behind the scenes, and other miscellaneous happenings, check out my instagram. A lot is happening now, but once we move there will be even more to share! So, follow along this journey friends.
